Volunteer Guidelines
When entering the Academy, please
check with the front office for assignments.
Being a volunteer can be very helpful,
but there are some guidelines that we want to be sure you are aware of and
follow.

Volunteers are never to be left
alone in a classroom.

Volunteers are never to discipline
the children.
-
Volunteers are never to change
diapers or assist a child in the bathroom.

Volunteers are never to dispense
medication to a child.
-
Volunteers are never to be counted
as part of the teacher to child ratio.

Volunteers are never to talk to
parents about any child.
-
Volunteers are not to use the phone.
-
Volunteers can assist in
helping with an activity.
-
Volunteers can assist in
getting and putting back snacks.
-
Volunteers can assist in
getting and putting back art supplies.
-
Volunteers can assist by
reading stories and playing table top games with the children.

Volunteers can assist by
working in a small group.
Below are some procedures that are
important for you to understand and follow:

Volunteers must follow NAEYC's hand
washing procedure (see Policy and Procedures Manual).

Volunteers must be aware of and
understand the evacuation routes posted in each classroom in case of an
emergency (see routes posted in each classroom).

Volunteers must be aware of our
'Storm Warning Procedure' and other emergency situations that affect the
opening or closing of our school (see Policy and Procedures Manual).
As a volunteer, you are here to help,
but you are not here to take the place of aides or teachers!
If you have any questions concerning
the Academy, please refer them to the front office.
