Volunteer Guidelines

When entering the Academy, please check with the front office for assignments.

Being a volunteer can be very helpful, but there are some guidelines that we want to be sure you are aware of and follow.

  1. Volunteers are never to be left alone in a classroom.
  2. Volunteers are never to discipline the children.
  3. Volunteers are never to change diapers or assist a child in the bathroom.
  4. Volunteers are never to dispense medication to a child.
  5. Volunteers are never to be counted as part of the teacher to child ratio.
  6. Volunteers are never to talk to parents about any child.
  7. Volunteers are not to use the phone.
  8. Volunteers can assist in helping with an activity.
  9. Volunteers can assist in getting and putting back snacks.
  10. Volunteers can assist in getting and putting back art supplies.
  11. Volunteers can assist by reading stories and playing table top games with the children.
  12. Volunteers can assist by working in a small group.

Below are some procedures that are important for you to understand and follow:

  1. Volunteers must follow NAEYC's  hand washing procedure (see Policy and Procedures Manual).
  2. Volunteers must be aware of and understand the evacuation routes posted in each classroom in case of an emergency (see routes posted in each classroom).
  3.  Volunteers must be aware of our 'Storm Warning Procedure' and other emergency situations that affect the opening or closing of our school (see Policy and Procedures Manual).

As a volunteer, you are here to help, but you are not here to take the place of aides or teachers!

If you have any questions concerning the Academy, please refer them to the front office.
