What is Relay For Life?

Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.…

Relay offers something for everyone, from the newly diagnosed, to caregivers and friends, to long-term survivors.  Relay represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.

Kids For Kids Academy teaches children the importance of helping others. Here is a great opportunity to come together as a family and help.

You might know someone whose life has been affected by cancer.  We have had parents in our school who are cancer survivors as well as others who know someone who is a survivor or someone who lost their battle with cancer.  My father spent a courageous year fighting stage 4 throat cancer and thanks to the brilliance of scientists who directed his care, he is now cancer free.  My Mother in Law was diagnosed with cancer in August 2009 and died just 12 days later.  Our participation is to honor and all brave individuals who have won the battle as well as to honor the memories of those who fought the fight and lost their lives.
There are many ways you can participate.  You can join our team through financial contributions to The American Cancer Society or join us on the day of the event.  May 22, 2010 at Coral Reef Senior High School is a time for friends and families to come together and celebrate life while raising money for those who struggle with cancer.


Here are some other things you can do to get involved, choose one or more if you wish:

  • Join our team on and spend time enjoying family activities, food, music and fun on May 22nd at Coral Reef Senior High any time between 6:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.  Please wear a Kids For Kids Academy shirt if you have one.
  • Sign up to walk for 15 or 30 minutes for our school team.  We must have one person at all times walking on the track.  Any family members at our school who are survivors are invited to walk the first lap!
  • Purchase a luminary bag and submit the name of someone who has survived or lost their fight against cancer.  The Relay for Life organization will put the names you submit on the bag.  The bags will illuminate the walking path.
  • Purchase Chance drawing tickets, $5 each or a book of 5 for $20, all money to be donated to The American Cancer Society.  Grand Prize: A 2010 Ford Focus. Other prizes include: $25 Ruby Tuesdays Gift Card, AMC Movie Passes, $25 Subway Card, and more.
  • Donate goods, services, gift cards to be used as prizes for our school raffle.
  • Take a “Coins For A Cure” pill bottle and put your loose change it in each day.  When it is full, let your child empty it into the jar at the school.  Ask friends and family members to take one home to fill as well.
  • Bake goodies for bake sales to take place each Friday in May or buy baked goodies at the bake sale.
  • Make a company donation to support our team.  All corporate donors will be listed at our Kids For Kids Academy Tent.
  • Sign up your company to have a team of their own, the more teams, the more money that will be raised.
  • Bring your family to the event on May 22nd to show your support, purchase Fun Bus tickets and visit the other booths where food and other goods will be sold.  All money raised will benefit the American Cancer Society.
  • Spread the word and invite other families, friends, or companies to participate or come to the event on May 22nd.
