Weekly Letters From Yellow Door

February 17, 2012 - YELLOW DOOR

Dear Parents of Yellow Door Students,
This week the children finished their art work for "Valentines Day", reviewed color and shapes during circle time, enjoyed playing the violin with Mrs. Michelle during music class and had lots of fun dancing and exercising during fitness class . For art work this week on Monday the children decorated a Valentine's bag with crayons and stickers of their choice; on Tuesday they pasted tissue paper on a heart shape previously painted for them to make a heart-flower and on Wednesday the children practiced using the scissors. Thursday, they drew a picture of their best friend in their journals and on Friday they had a good time crushing crackers to make "Dog -bone Treats"
Our next student of the week will be Valentina B . Parents please send us a poster with pictures of Valentina and her family to share with her friends during circle time
Parents please don't forget to check your child's cubbyhole for pull ups , wipes and extra clothes needed !

FEBRUARY 10, 2012- YELLOW DOOR

Dear Parents of Yellow Door Students,
This week our topic was "Valentine's Day". The children learned about how important it is to love your family and friends, what do hearts mean and how do we show love to others.
For art work this week the children enjoyed decorating with crayons, markers, and stickers a "paper heart person" (on Monday ) a heart headband on (Tuesday ) a Valentine's card ( on Wednesday and Thursday ) and letter V on Friday . The children also had lots of fun exercising during fitness class with Ms. Crissy.
Our next student of the week will be Emily Ruiz. Parents, please send us a poster with pictures of Emily and her family to share with her friends during circle time .
Parents please don't forget to check your child's cubbyhole for pull ups , wipes and extra clothes needed. Also, remember to send in Valentine's cards with your child's name on them.

February 3, 2012 - YELLOW DOOR

Dear Parents of Yellow Door Students,
This week our topic was "Groundhog " and letter "K". The children listened to the story of the groundhog and learned some words beginning with letter K. They also enjoyed exercising during fitness class and playing the " marimba " with Mrs. Michelle during music class . This week we also welcomed Valentina and Olivia from Red Door to our class. For art work this week on Monday, the children decorated the letter K using green crayons and tissue paper on Tuesday the children put together different shapes made out of construction paper to make a kite. On Wednesday,they colored a groundhog shape using brown crayons and pasted green tissue paper around a plastic cup to make the groundhog's house. On Thursday, the children pasted heart shapes on construction paper and added eyes nose and whiskers to make the groundhogs face and on Friday they enjoyed making groundhogs out of biscuits, raisins and sugar. Our next student of the week will be Enrique Parisca. Parents please send us a poster with pictures of Enrique and his family to share with his friends during circle time.
Parents, please don't forget to check your child's cubby hole for pull ups wipes and extra clothes needed !!!:) and to pick up your wonderful child's work from the mailbox inside the classroom ( only on Fridays please).

JANUARY 27, 2012 - YELLOW DOOR

Dear Parents Of Yellow Door Students,
This week our topic was "Feelings". The children learned about all different types of emotions (happy, sad, angry etc) and had a good time acting how they would make that emotion. As always this week the children had a great time exercising and dancing during fitness class and enjoyed listening to new stories and songs during Spanish class. For art work this week on Monday the children decorated a happy face with stickers in their journals. On Tuesday, the children decorated both sides of a paper plate to make a happy and sad paper plate puppet and on Wednesday the children did free art using water colors of their choice. On Thursday, they cut pictures from magazines and pasted them on construction paper to make an emotions poster and on Friday for cooking time the children used rice cakes, raisins and cherries to make happy and sad faces. In the Science Lab with Mrs. Davis, the children viewed a cross sections of the "tree blocks" with a hand lens. And with their sense of smell, recognized the pine.
Our next student of the week will be David Saumur. Parents, please send us a poster with pictures of David and his family to share with his friends during circle time.

January 20, 2012 - YELLOW DOOR

Dear Parents of Yellow Door Students,
This week our topic was" Winter " and the children learned what happens during this season, the type of clothes that are worn ( gloves, big jackets, scarves, boots, etc.), places where there is snow and animals that live there. This week the children also enjoyed fitness , Spanish and music class. For story-time this week they listened to the stories "One Winters Day ", "Cool Penguins" and "Snowy Day".
During art work this week, the children on Tuesday did free art in their journals about winter. On Wednesday they decorated the number four with crayons and stickers of their choice on Thursday they pasted eyes, nose, mouth, and hat on a paper plate to make a snowman and on Friday they enjoyed making snowman out of sugar cookies, raisins, cream cheese, and cherries.
In the Science Lab this week, the children enjoyed free exploration in the various stations.
Our next student of the week will be Emily Ruiz, parents please send us a poster with pictures of Emily and her family to share during circle time with her friends.
