Dear Parents:

“Love was in the air” in purple door! I hope you all had a beautiful Valentine’s Day. The children had so much fun exchanging their cards. This week we read a Big Book based on a well-known song “The Wheels on the Bus”. While waiting for a bus, two girls and their grandma sing a song. But they have so much fun singing, they miss the bus. We discussed how to identify the main idea and details in a story.  Last week, while we were on the bus on our way to the play the children were reading words from the signs such as “STOP”. They were so excited to recognize the words each time they would say, “Look Mrs. Lauren, look that’s one of our words!” It was nice to see that they are learning so much!  In Math, we continued learning about money. We also learned about time. Your child is learning to sequence events, read a calendar and tell time to the hour.  In Science, we completed our chapter about weather and seasons. All the children did excellent on the assessment. In honor of President’s Day we learned about the life of President Lincoln. We also learned a poem called “All About Abe”. As a culminating activity, we baked a cake and decorated it like the American flag with blueberries, strawberries and frosting. Yum! Mrs. Olguita also provided the children with information about our country and our Presidents. They enjoyed making the American flag and The White House from construction paper with Mrs. Olguita. Last but not least, our book report experience is going very well the children look forward to sharing their reports with a friend. The children exercised with Mrs. Crissy. Also, Ms. Michelle worked individually with each child in appropriate violin techniques.

Congratulations to “Bryce Henry” our next student of the week.

Have a beautiful weekend!

Sincerely,

 Mrs. Lauren

Dear Parents:

We are continuing our reading theme “Sunshine and Raindrops”. We read the rhyming Big Book “All to build a Snowman” Two children began to build a snowman. A series of events interrupts them but as a result, they find lots of things they can use to decorate their snowman. Talk about snow with your child. Share any special experiences you might have had with snow in your life.  Also, this week we reviewed the letter “Q”. The children were introduced to asking sentences. They learned how to use and identify a question mark. All week they were finding question marks in stories.  In math, we started a new chapter about money. We are learning how to recognize coins and their value. In science, we are coming to the end of our chapter about weather and seasons. In social studies, we discussed how to identify different kinds of land, such as mountains, hills and deserts.

The children enjoyed the field trip to the Actors’ Playhouse. The play was titled, “Alexander
Who’s Not Going To Move". Ask your child to share the story of Alexander with you and discuss what happened at the beginning and at the end. As a reminder Valentine’s Day cards and mailboxes are due Monday, February 13
th .

Congratulations to Sydney Goldstein our “Student of the Week”!

Dear Parents:

Hooray, it’s the 100th day of school!  The day was a blast! We started by decorating our crowns with, what else but “100” happy face stickers. The children wrote in their journals about one of the 100 things they have learned in kindergarten so far. Then we played some games outside, one of them with some buckets and beanbags called “Bucket Blast”. After, we had a wonderful music lesson with Ms. Michelle.  The day continued with a great story about a class that celebrates the 100th day of school.  However, in the story there is boy who is worried that his birthday will be forgotten because it’s on the 100th day of school. At the end the class surprises him by wishing him a Happy Birthday. The cute part was that the story was similar to our class because there was a boy named Ethan, a boy named Kyle and twins. At the end of the day we made our trail mix. Each child counted 100 items to make their mix…maybe a little more for the things they liked.  J

Throughout the week we continued our reading theme “Sunshine and Raindrops”. We also reviewed the letter “K”. In Math, we reviewed chapter 7. As a reminder the assessment will be on Monday. In science we continued our chapter about ”Weather and Seasons”. Remember to work on your Valentine’s Day mailbox. Last but not least, don’t put away your jackets just yet, the Groundhog “Punxsutawney Phil” saw his shadow so we can enjoy a few more weeks of “Winter”.

Have a beautiful weekend!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lauren

Dear Parents:

We are continuing our reading theme “Sunshine and Raindrops”. We read a rhyming Big Book “What Will the Weather Be Like Today?” The story showed different landscapes and weather around the world. With your child, talk together about the weather of the day. Also, help your child listen for pairs of rhyming words. In Math, we learned how to determine if a number is even or odd. You can practice with your child by using small objects, and then pair the objects. Review with them, if no objects are left over, then the number is even. If one object is left over, then the number is odd. This week we also learned about positions of objects using the ordinal numbers first – tenth. In our new science chapter ”Weather and Seasons” your child learned about how the weather and seasons change. The class learned that the weather can be sunny, windy, rainy or snowy. They also learned about changes that happen during spring, summer, fall and winter. This will be the last week of show and tell. This will allow us the opportunity to venture to something new during this time.  During this week, we continued to discuss cause and effect.  A cause is something that makes something else happen.  Out of two events, it is the event that happens first. To determine the cause, ask the question "Why Did it Happen?" An effect is what happens as a result of the cause.  Of two related events, it’s the one that happens second or last.  To determine the effect, ask the question "What Happened?" For example, The boy kicked the ball is a cause and the effect is the ball rolls. Have your child share some cause and effect examples with you or think of some together. We also discussed what is a hero and people who make a difference in our lives. We added plants to the garden this week and the children had a wonderful time. They did such a great job digging the holes, putting in the plants, adding soil and cleaning up. I will send home a note with the item your child should bring for the 100th day celebration. As a home project, please begin to decorate a shoe box with a lid for Valentine’s Day.  Cut a slit on the top of the box so that the Valentine cards can slip through easily. Be creative and have fun! Please send boxes and Valentine cards for each child by Friday, Feb. 10th.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lauren

      Dear Parents,

We launched a new theme in reading titled, “Sunshine and Raindrops”. While working with this theme we will be discussing weather. Talk to your child about the things he or she notices about the weather on the way to school. Also, this week, we reviewed the letter “L”.  During Math we worked on counting by 2, 5 and 10 up to 100. We completed our chapter in Science about How Things Move and in the Science Lab the children enjoyed free exploration at various stations of their choice. In connection with our reading we discussed cause and effect during Social Studies and related how different weather conditions have an effect on our environment. Mrs. Olguita is continuing to review the sounds of the vowels.

Our field trip was wonderful. We really experienced and connected with nature. We visited two farms. At the first farm the children enjoyed a pony ride, went to the playground, bounced in a bounce house and slid down an inflatable slide. At the other farm they had the opportunity to feed a horse or a pig. We also saw some cows, although they didn’t “Moo” for us they were still fun to watch. We definitely had a terrific time!

We will be having our 100th Day Celebration on Thursday, February 2nd. We are planning a very exciting day for the children.

Congratulations to Gaelle Supplice our “Student of the Week”!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lauren
