Dear Parents of Orange Door Students,
We started the week celebrating Valentine's Day by making a heart necklace on Monday and our Valentine card exchange on Tuesday. The children really enjoyed getting cards from all their friends. For the rest of the week the theme was "Our Country". You may be surprised to learn that many of the children did not know the name of their country. So we wrote and learned the name of our country and symbols that represent our country like our flag, the White House, the, Capitol Building and the Statue of Liberty. They also learned how many states and read all their names. For our projects the children colored a map of the United States, painted our flag and traced the Capitol Building and the Statue of Liberty. Friday for our cooking activity we baked a cake and decorated it with strawberries and blueberries to make our flag. It was beautiful and delicious. During the week the children also enjoyed music with Mrs. Michelle and fitness class with Ms. Crissy.
Our student of the week will be Nikolas Ulloa. Please help him prepare a poster to present to the class. The school will be closed on Monday in observance of Presidents' Day.
Have a great long weekend,
Ms.Aida, Ms.Marta and Ms.Olguita

Dear Parents of Orange Door Students,
We had a "Lovely" week in Orange Door learning about why we celebrate Valentine's Day. We read many stories. One of the stories we read was "The Biggest Valentine" by Steven Kroll. This is a story about two little mice that could not agree how to decorate a card for their teacher. They finally came to an agreement and created a beautiful card together. So we copied the mice's design and made a Valentine mouse just like the one in the book. We made several other projects using hearts, a beautiful card for our families and decorated a white bag for their Valentines. Parents please remember to buy valentines cards for your child to exchange next Tuesday. You do not need to address the cards only sign your child's name. They are really looking forward to exchanging cards with all their friends. There are sixteen children in the class.
Our letter of the week was the letter V, we decorated it using hearts, practiced writing it and drew pictures of objects that start with the V sound.
In the Science Lab this week the children worked with primary colors and created new colors by mixing them together. As always, they had fun with Ms. Crissy in their fitness class.
For our cooking on Friday we made a delicious Valentine's Day treat! Ask your child all about it.
Our student of the week will be Victoria Torres. Please help her decorate a poster to present to the class.
Have a great weekend, Ms.Aida, Ms.Marta, and Ms.Olguita

Dear Parents of Orange Door Students,
Our theme for this week was "Groundhog Day" and the letter N. The children learned that Punxsutawney Phil is a groundhog resident of the town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania and that on February 2nd each year Phil emerges from his burrow. According to tradition, if he sees his shadow and returns to his hole there will be six more weeks of winter. If Phil does not see his shadow an early spring is predicted.
In the Science Lab this week the children enjoyed free exploration in multiple stations. They also had Fitness Class with Ms. Crissy and music with Mrs. Michelle.
Since both Groundhog Day and Valentine's day are in February the children made a groundhog using heart shapes, completed our Weekly Reader activity, enjoyed decorating the letter N with yarn and colored paper and worked in their journals. On Friday, we made a groundhog snack using shredded wheat, biscuits, raisins, brown sugar and butter. They absolutely loved it.
Please see Ms.Delly in the office to pick up your gift card from the R&R-DLL study.
Our student of the week will be Thomas Toca. Please help him prepare a poster to present to the class.
Have a great weekend, Ms. Aida, Ms. Marta, and Ms. Olguita

Dear Parents of Orange Door Students,
We have had a very busy and wonderful week working in the garden and learning about shapes and the letter S. First, let me tell you about the garden. The zucchini seeds we planted last week are about two to three inches tall so we planted them in soil and moved them to the garden and we planted our black bean plants by the fence so they could climb as they grow. We are so excited to see everything growing so well that we are going to continue planting and next we'll plant some green beans and onions. If you have time, have your child take you on a tour of our garden.
The children also learned about shapes. They designed a paper house using different shapes and created a beautiful design by drawing shapes that intertwined with a permanent marker then coloring the different shapes created with watercolors.
We practiced writing the letter S on dry erase boards and drew pictures of objects that begin with its sound.
In the Science Lab this week with Mrs. Davis, the children viewed the cross section of their "tree blocks" with the use of a hand lens. They also observed the smell of the pine.
Our student of the week will be Robert Saumur. Please help decorate a poster about himself to present to the class.
Have a great weekend, Ms.Aida, Ms.Marta and Ms.Olga

Dear Parents of Orange Door Students,
This week the children in Orange Door have been very busy learning about gardening. We worked in our school garden, that by the way is looking wonderful. Now we just planted seeds for a Ratatouille garden. Ratatouille is a french soup that you make with eggplant, tomato, zucchini and pepper. We hope to enter our Ratatouille Garden in the Youth Fair. We also planted black beans in plastic cups so that the children can observe first hand how the roots and other parts of a plant grow. They practiced their handwriting by writing "Today I planted seeds" and drew a picture. In the Science Lab this week the children enjoyed free exploration at various stations of their choice.
Friday for our cooking activity we made a delicious vegetable salad. Remember the children are always more willing to taste different foods when they are involved in the preparation.
Our field trip was great fun. The children rode on ponies, saw chickens, bunnies, cows, horses and even got to feed a couple of the cutest potbelly pigs. As always a big thank you to all our wonderful chaperons. We also enjoyed fitness with Ms. Crissy and music with Mrs. Michelle
Have a beautiful weekend, Ms.Aida, M.Marta and Ms.Olguita
