Weekly Letters From Green Door
February 17, 2012 - GREEN DOOR Print E-mail

Dear Parents of Green Door Students,

Our topic for this week was the colors “purple and pink”.  The children continued to prepare projects for Valentine’s day: they made a beautiful card for Mommy and Daddy with their hand print.  They also painted mixing colors to make pink (red and white) and purple (blue and red).

During circle time, the children looked at pink and purple pictures. We sang songs and made fingerplay (their favorite song is Rollie Pollie).

A special thank to Gabriela who offered Valentine’s bags for her classmates. She is sick and is missing school for more than one week.  We can’t wait for her to be back and give her a big hug. Take care Gabi!

Also, we hope our little girls appreciated the roses our little prince Matthew gave to her. Isn’t that cute!

Remember the school is closed on Monday in observance of Presidents' Day.

Have a great long weekend!

Mrs. Murielle & Mrs. Hermelinda

Dear Parents of Green Door Students,

Our topic for this week was “The Heart Shape”.

During the week, we were busy preparing for the celebration of "Valentine's Day" next Tuesday. The children made paintings, handprints and coloring for decorating the class. They also pasted heart shapes on a construction paper and colored inside a big heart traced by the teacher.

In circle time, the teachers showed how they care for the children giving hugs and saying I love you. We sang and listened to love songs.  During small group activity, the children practiced recognizing the heart shape among the other shapes.

Little Reminder:

Please don't forget to send a pair of new shoes for your child to wear inside the class.

Have a nice weekend filled with love.

FEBRUARY 3, 2012 - GREEN DOOR Print E-mail

Dear Parents of Green Door Students,

This week,  we were thrilled to welcome our first "baby" Matthew (6 monthS old), we naturally talked about "babies" and the appropriate way to play and behave around them. Everybody was very happy to have a new friend.

For art, in order to develop fine motor skills, the children pasted foam shapes on a construction paper. They painted mixing tan and red paints with their hands. They also colored with different crayons. As usual, the children enjoyed music with Mrs. Michelle.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Starting Monday, for hygienic purposes and to maintain  a healthy class, we asked all parents to provide for their child a new pair of "inside" shoes (for examples Crocs) to wear in class and a pair of "outside shoes" to go outside (the usual ones). The "inside" shoes will remain in the class. Also, when you enter in the class to drop or pick up your child, please take off your shoes or put on the protections provided.

Have a nice week end.

Mrs Murielle and Mrs. Hermelinda

JANUARY 27, 2012 - GREEN DOOR Print E-mail

Dear Parents of Green Door Students,

Our topic for this week was “music”. Plato once said that music “is a more potent instrument than any other for education”. Did you know that music plays an important role in the development of your child? Music contributes to develop skills in different areas such as movement, communication, language and memorization.child image by Renata Osinska from Fotolia.com

Intellectual Development: it helps them to remember things. Since music, whether instrumental or vocal, is based on a series of patterns, early exposure to music enables children to recognize patterns. This ability helps children develop their math, science and reading skills.

Cultural Diversity:  Music plays an important role in almost all societies and civilizations worldwide. Exposing children to music from different parts of the world will help them to learn about other culturesand recognize differences between cultures. This can also help children develop an appreciation for different cultures and traditions. This week, the children listened to French songs such as "Frere Jacques" and "ainsi font les marionettes" (fingers play). They also listened to musics from the world and classical music.
Physical Activity: Getting children up and moving their bodies to music is a fun and simple form of exercise. Teaching children dances to go along with specific songs, such as the chicken dance and the Hokey Pokey can help children develop their large motor skills and coordination. Songs and dances like the Head, Shoulder, Knees and Toes can also help children identify their different body parts and learn their right side form their left side.

The children made the following art projects: they dipped one finger in black paint and with help of the teacher, they applied it on lines traced on the construction paper to illustrate musical notes. They colored 2 little carton plates using the water color bottles and the teacher made maracas.  They glued strips of colored paper to make a xylophone.

 Have a wonderful weekend.

January 20, 2012 - GREEN DOOR Print E-mail

Dear Parents of Green Door,

This week, all our attention was on the color BLUE. We looked at pictures representing blue things. We made little games such as look and find blue objects in the classroom. For art, we used blue crayons, blue paint, blue construction paper. The children painted a construction paper in blue and the next day they pasted a blue fish on it to represent the ocean. They pasted blue foam shapes on a paper, they colored in blue a construction paper and the teacher cut out a blue whale. Finally, they all painted together on  a big sheet of paper in blue and white to help to make a new decoration for our external board.

On Tuesday, they had Fitness with Ms. Crissy, although they are not able yet to follow all the directions, they enjoyed  being with their Red Door friends. On Thursday, they listened to Mrs. Michelle's songs and could hit the gong she brought and hear his loud sound.

Have a nice weekend with your family!

Mrs. Murielle & Mrs. Hermelinda
