Weekly Letters From Gold Door
February 17, 2012 - GOLD DOOR Print E-mail
Dear Parents of Gold Door Students,
This week we started talking about "Our Country".  We discussed things such as the name of our country, our state and our city (a hard concept for them to understand).  We mentioned the American Flag, its colors, stars and stripes as well.
On Monday the children were able to complete a heart to decorate the classroom for Valentine's day. They turned out very cute and the kids were very proud of them!  On Tuesday, for Valentine's day, the children were able to exchange their Valentine's cards and little things their classmates brought.  Thank you to all the parents, this makes their experience so special. We completed the day by having some cupcakes from Ms. Patty and Mrs. Wanda since we looooove our Gold Door students!  Wednesday, we started
working on our country unit and we decorated an American flag by using the children's hand prints to make the red stripes and their fingertips to represent the stars. They also decorated the United States to make up our new bulletin board.  On Thursday, the children practiced their numbers by tracing stars and writing the numbers 1-10 on them and they also made the American Flag by using popsicle sticks.  On Friday we had a delicious American cake!
We hope you have a great weekend with your children and remember:  we will be closed on Monday in Observance of Presidents Day.

Have a wonderful long weekend.

Dear Parents of Gold Door Students:
This week we had a "sweet" time learning about Valentine's Day!  The children did many projects with this theme and they also learned about the letter V, its sound and words that begin with this letter.
On Monday they children started the week by tracing and coloring the letter V and a heart, they also wrote the word Valentine on their paper.  The children also practiced writing the letter V.  On Tuesday, the children decorated a Valentine ornament and they also started gluing tissue paper on a heart to make a card.  On Wednesday, the children finished making their cards by writing "Happy Valentine's Day" on it. They also had a great time at the Science Lab as they mixed primary colors to make other colors.  On Thursday, we had our field-trip to the Actor's Playhouse where the children watched "Alexander Is Not, Not, Not, Not, Not Going To Move".  And on Friday we enjoyed our cooking activity as they made Hugs and Kisses!
Please don't forget to bring in a Valentine's Day card for your child to exchange on Tuesday February 14 (You may bring it in on Monday and give it to either Ms. Wanda or myself).  Have them write their names on the card on the "from" part of it but not the name of the friend they are giving it to; the "to" part should be left blank.  Remember, no candies are allowed with the Valentine card; however, stickers and small little things are.
Have a wonderful and safe weekend!

Dear Parents of Gold Door Students,
This week our topic was the groundhog and the letter N.  We learned some facts about the groundhog, his habitat and the story of Groundhog Day.  This week the children also went over the letter N, how to write it, it's sound and some words that begin with this letter.
On Monday, the children started the week by completing a Weekly Reader that was all about groundhogs so they can gain some information about the topic, they also enjoyed Spanish with Ms. Olguita.  On Tuesday the children practiced writing the upper and lower case letter N and they also wrote the words nose and nail; we also started counting by putting small blocks together.  On Wednesday the children traced and colored the letter N with a musical note; we also took them outside to practice their gross motor skills.  On Thursday, the children drew a picture of the groundhog in their journals and they also made a groundhog out of hearts.  Friday we made a special groundhog treat!
Next week our topic will be Valentine's Day, please remember they have to bring in a card to each of their friends in Gold Door with only their names signed on the back.  We have 16 children with your child included in our class.
Have a great and safe weekend

Dear Parents of Gold Door:
This week we had a great time learning about our shapes and the letter S.  We learned some new shapes like the pentagon and the octagon, and we saw that we could make pictures out of shapes.  We also went over the letter S, its sounds and words that begin with this letter.
On Tuesday the children picked their favorite shape and with the help of a shapes book they drew pictures of those shapes; they also enjoyed fitness class with Ms. Crissy.  On Wednesday, the children went to the Science Lab and with the use of a hand lens, they viewed a cross section of the "tree blocks" and noted the pine aroma.
On Thursday the children practiced writing the letter S and some words that begin with S.  On Friday, we enjoyed our lemonade that we made in class!  Yummy!!
Please note that the homework is due on Fridays inside the folders that were assigned to your child.  Next week I will start sending Gisel home again since the children had a great time taking her home; they are excited to take her home again.  Please make sure you write down adventures they had with Gisel and to add pictures if possible, the children love sharing their story and the pictures.  I have also been sending activity bags home and hope you are playing, reading and letting them explore with the bags.  They enjoy these bags as well.
We hope you have a great and safe weekend with your children.

Dear Parents of Gold Door Students;

This week we had a wonderful week.  The children talked about shapes, the letter S and plants.
On Tuesday, after the long weekend in remembrance of Martin Luther King, Jr., the children were ready to work.
We traced and decorated the letter S and went to the computer lab where they were working and
learning letter sounds with music and puzzles on the abc mouse program.   They are doing great
and they love it!  Wednesday, the children traced and cut out shapes to make a house collage, wrote in
their journals and went to the Science Lab to enjoy free exploration at the different stations.  Thursday, we went on a
field trip and talked about planting.  On Friday, we planted a taco garden, pizza garden and beans .
The children are exited to see their vegetables grow.  Afterwards, they will plant them in the school
garden and take good care of them.  We also made a journal where the children are writing what
happens every week to their plants until we collect our vegetables.  On Friday we also cooked.  We made
a vegetable salad and planted beans in a cup with cotton balls.  We are really doing a lot of planting! As always,
we also enjoyed Fitness class with Ms. Crissy and music with Mrs. Michelle.

We look forward to a wonderful week.  Have a wonderful weekend with your family.

Miss Patty
Mrs. Wanda
