Blue Door Weekly Letter
February 17, 2012

Dear Parents of Blue Door Students,
Love is in the air! The children had a wonderful time trading their Valentine's cards. They were just as excited to give as to receive their cards. We have been talking a lot about caring for others feelings and how good it feels to be kind to our friends and family. The children were taught a Valentines poem to say to you. If they have not recited it to you, remind them that it starts, when I say I love you. You will just melt, when you hear it! I hope everyone enjoyed the Valentine's card from your child. They were so happy to give it to you. Thank you so very much for all the goodies given to the children and to the teachers. We can feel the love!
On Monday, the children were able to pick a color to paint a heart. When it was dry, they wrote their own name. Most of the children are writing their first name so well that we are teaching them to write their last name. This is advanced for their age. We are so proud!
Tuesdaywas Valentines. The children also enjoyed fitness with Miss Crissy. Also, Spanish with Ms. Olgita, Tuesday-Thursday.
On Wednesday, the children cut out a large heart. We noticed that some children need more practice with scissors. We will doing more with scissors to develop the muscles needed to cut and write. Please also practice at home too.
On Thursday, we had music with Ms. Michelle. We used scissors to cut paper and paste onto paper.
On Friday, we tended to our plants in the garden. We will also be baking "Queen of Hearts Strawberry Tarts."
There is no school on Monday, February 20th for Presidents Day. Enjoy the day with your family!
Have a great weekend!
 Ms. Cindy and Ms. Sandra

Blue Door Weekly Letter
February 10, 2012

Dear Parents of Blue Door Students,
This week, we are learning the letter "V" for Valentine's Day.
On Monday, we traced and colored the letter V. Then we glued hearts for Valentines. Ms. Sandra taught them a Valentine's poem. She told them to go home and say it to their parents. If they haven't, ask your child to recite the Valentine's poem for you. You will love it!
On Tuesday, the children had fitness with Miss Crissy. She does some really fun activities with them. The children glued together a bunny made from several hearts.
On Wednesday, the children began to decorate their shoeboxes to make beautiful mailboxes for their cards from all their friends. Each child will individually pass out their cards to their friends. Please make sure your child has cards with their own name written on the back. They will be very sad to not have cards to share.
On Thursday, we finished decorating our mailboxes and started making cards for you. Be looking for your special card next week. I hope you enjoy it!
On Friday, we visited the Science Lab to experience something fun. We worked with primary colors and mixing them together to create new colors.
Please return the worksheet that was in your child's mailbox on Monday. Tuesday, February 14th is Valentine's Day. We will be trading cards with our friends and having heart shaped cookies for a special treat.
Congratulations to Luis Garcia for being next weeks, Star Student of the Week. Please bring a poster with pictures of the family, pets and special events. Happy Birthday to Theodore Mompremier on February 15th and Nasha Thomas on February 18th.

Dear Parents of Blue Door Students,
This week, we are learning the letter "T" for Transportation. We traced and colored the letter T. We added things that we could travel on, like a boat, airplane, car, truck, train and helicopter.  Also, because of Groundhog day, we are learning the letter "U" for underground animals. Yesterday, the groundhog came out of his hole and saw his shadow, so there are 6 more weeks of winter. We traced the letter U and traced an umbrella then colored very carefully in the lines. We also enjoyed Fitness class with
Ms. Crissy and music with Mrs. Michelle. During Science Lab the children has free
exploration at multiple stations.
We are working with the children to learn their parent's names. We think this is important for the children to know, especially in an emergency situation. Next week, we will be talking about Valentine's day. Please start working on the 19 Valentines cards needed to be given out by your child. They in turn will be receiving 19 Valentines cards from their friends. Let your child write their own first name on the cards. We can tell when it is not them. They should be getting very good at this since we have been practicing at school and at home. The children will be making little mailboxes out of the children-size shoe boxes for their cards. Please return the worksheets that are given to you in their mailbox every Friday. The children that return their worksheets, done correctly, are given a sticker for their incentive charts. Some of the children are very disappointed when they don't get a sticker for their chart.
Congratulations to Vaniha Da Costa for being, next week, Star Student of the Week. Please bring a poster with pictures of the family, pets, vacations or special events in your child's life. Happy Birthday to Brandon Pena on February 4th and Celeste Server-Medina on February 5th.
     Have a nice weekend!
 Ms. Cindy and Ms. Sandra

JANUARY 27, 2012 - BLUE DOOR Print E-mail
Dear Parents of Blue Door Students,
This week, we are learning the letter "W" and the weather. Everyday, at circle time, we go over our calendar and discuss the weather of that day. Although we do not experience the 4 seasons, since we live in sunny south florida, we do introduce the children to all types of weather including fall and winter.
Monday was a Teacher Planning Day.
On Tuesday, we traced and colored the letter W. We are encouraging the children to stay in the lines when they are coloring. Not to be in a hurry and scribble on the paper. This helps the children to learn how to control their writing instrument and develops the small motor skills needed to learn how to write properly. The children enjoy doing Fitness with Miss Crissy. She keeps them moving with all kinds of fun activities.
On Wednesday, we glued a snowman to our colored W paper. We added a face and whatever else the children wanted to put. Then we made a winter scene. We read stories about snow, so the children could see what a snowman looks like.
On Thursday, we started to make a snowman puppet on a stick.
On Friday, we will be making watermelon sherbet for cooking. The children had Science Lab with Mrs. Davis. This week they viewed "tree" blocks and studied the cross section of the blocks with a hand lens. They also used the sense of smell to smell
the pine.
Tuesday - Thursday, the children have been going to the garden and to the computer lab. We do this between 9-10, so if you are dropping your child off after 9:00, they are not getting to go to the computer lab. Most of the children have been spending an hour in the computer lab with a group of 5 children. They have been learning so much.
Congratulations to Lucas de Almeida for being next weeks, Star Student of the Week. Please bring a poster in on Monday.
Happy Birthday to Cristian Atehortua on January 29th and Vaniha Da Costa on January 30th. Also, congratulations to the Angulo family, Luis is a proud new big brother of a little sister named Samantha.
Have a great weekend! Ms. Cindy and Ms. Sandra

Blue Door Weekly Letter
January 20, 2012

Dear Parents of Blue Door Students,

This week, we are learning about Martin Luther King Jr. He had a dream and his dream came true. His words changed the way people thought, and his actions spurred them on to change the world.

I hope that all our families enjoyed Monday off.

On Tuesday, we had Fitness with Ms. Crissy and Spanish with Ms. Olgita. Ms. Olgita told them the story of Martin Luther King Jr. and taught them words with pictures.
On Wednesday, we went to the garden before we went to the playground.  We traced the letter "M" and decorated it with macaroni. We read the story about, My First Biography: Martin Luther King Jr.
On Thursday, we had Music with Ms. Michelle. She sang the story about the Goldie Locks and Three Bears using teddy bears and a doll, sang the Wheels on the Bus, and learned what sound a gong makes.  We finished our number books.
On Friday, we baked a cake for Martin Luther King Jr's birthday. The children first helped to mix the cake batter. Then each child had a cup of batter and a drop of food coloring, of their choice. They mixed their batter and poured into a large cake pan. All the colors baked, creating a rainbow cake. We then frosted the cake and had a slice for dessert.
Each child had a chance to spend 45 minutes in the computer lab this week. Ms. Sandra was able to set up an account with the children so we will be able to monitor their progress. We will let you know more about that soon. In the Science Lab this week, the children enjoyed free exploration at the different stations.
Please check your child's mailbox. We will be giving you a work sheet that we would like you to do with your child and to be returned on Tuesday. We will be starting a sticker reward chart. When the worksheets are returned, your child will get an extra sticker for their chart. Please leave their charts attached to their cubbies until they are full. We will then put them in their mailboxes.  Thank you!
Happy Birthday to Oscar Barrios, Monday, January 23. Monday is a Teacher Planning Day, we will be open for child care.

      Have a wonderful weekend!

      Ms. Cindy and Ms. Sandra
